The “Management Practices” of the Church of Scientology

There are only few religious organizations that are as controversial as the Church of Scientology. This religious organization is accused by their opponents of many negative practices such as ideological indoctrination, brainwashing or the economic exploitation of the followers and sympathizers of this “sect”. An interesting feature of the activities of this church, and a well-known one, too, is that it is very much interested in business management and “therapeutic contacts” with people who deal with in business management and “therapeutic contacts” with people who deal with managing companies. It church in question organizes various courses and trainings for groups of business leaders which, according to its critics, make people addicted to these practices. An important reason for the interest in business issue is, obviously, seeking profit, however, there are many indications that it is also important for this church to gain influence upon the development of management practices, and to control the most important people in the economy. The interest in businesspeople is also related to the very essence of the Church of Scientology, which combines its therapeutic effectiveness with management efficiency. All of this contributes to the phenomenon of the Church of Scientology currently having one of the most effective and, at the same time, one of the most controversial management systems of all contemporarily-active religious groups.
